Wind Down with These 5 At-Home Cocktails

When it comes to enjoying your downtime or hosting a night in, it’s always fun to have a few simple cocktails that you can bust out with ease. Check out TAVA Water’s top five DIY cocktails that are as delicious as they are impressive.

1) Negroni
The Negroni has been a longtime favorite of bartenders for years, and people are starting to realize why. This classic Italian cocktail strikes the perfect balance between bitter and sweet to create a truly great aperitif. Best of all is that this cocktail is as easy as it gets thanks to its simple ratio of equal parts Campari, sweet vermouth, and gin. Not a fan of gin? Try the sweeter, rye whiskey-based version, the Boulevardier.

2) White Russian
Learn how to make a White Russian that The Dude would be proud of. All you need is a two parts vodka and one part Kahlua in a rocks glass with ice and a floater of heavy cream to make this simple yet indulgent cocktail. If heavy cream sounds a bit too rich, swap it out for your favorite milk alternative or just regular milk.

3) Hot Toddy
Take a timeout from pumpkin spice to try the classic flavors of a hot toddy. Although traditionally made with whiskey, you can choose your favorite dark liquor like rum or brandy and mix it with honey, cinnamon, and a good squeeze of lemon. Top up with hot water and you’re good to go. Once you’ve got the basic ratio down, go to town with your own additions to make it your ideal cocktail. We like adding slices of fresh ginger and black pepper for a zesty kick.

4) Classic Martini
There is something sophisticated about being able to craft the perfect martini at home. As a traditional martini has only two ingredients – dry vermouth, and gin or vodka – it’s important to use quality spirits. Mix the one ounce of vermouth to every 4 ounces of gin, stir with ice, strain and serve in a cocktail glass. Garnishing with a cocktail onion makes a Gibson, an olive garnish with a splash of the brine is a dirty martini.

5) Red Wine Hot Chocolate
Honestly, why did this drink not exist sooner? This is pretty much the fall-themed adult version of a childhood favorite, hot chocolate. Check out this recipe for slow cooker red wine hot chocolate that takes all the guesswork out of making a cup of your new favorite wine-down beverage.
