Where to Go for Colorado’s Best Ski Weekends

|

We’re spoiled in Denver with easy access to some of the best skiing in North America. But some resorts make for better weekend trips than others. When you’re looking to get out of town Friday afternoon and be back to the office on Monday, check out these five fantastic resorts that are sure to provide winter fun.

Breckenridge

Located about two hours east of TAVA Waters on I-70, Breckenridge is the ideal place to escape for a fantastic ski weekend. More than 2,300 acres of exceptional skiing and snowboarding are waiting for you across four majestic peaks. And you don’t even have to hit the slopes to have a great time in Breckenridge. Plan your visit for one of the town’s many festivals and events throughout the year, including Ullr Fest, when 12,000 enthusiasts celebrate the Nordic god of snow.

Copper Mountain

Just past the Breckenridge exit on I-70 is Copper Mountain, a destination for skiing, snowboarding, dining, and entertainment. Take a turn on one of the more than 140 trails of exciting terrain perfect for any skill level. It’s closer to Denver than Vail or Beaver Creek, and it’s also less crowded than many of the other resorts in the area.

Keystone Resort

One of the closest ski resorts to TAVA Waters is also one of the best. Sitting just an hour and a half from Denver, Keystone Resort is an ideal place to escape for a weekend away. Home to Dercum Mountain, North Peak, and The Outback, Keystone is a great place for the whole family to ski or snowboard. Keystone also happens to boast Colorado’s largest night ski operation, so you don’t have to stop skiing when the sun goes down.

Winter Park Resort

If you want to start your weekend ski trip in style, hop on the Winter Park Express Amtrak train from Union Station in Denver – it’ll take you right to Winter Park Resort, the longest continually operated ski resort in Colorado. The ski train, which is returning for the season in 2017, departs from downtown Denver and helps you avoid traffic on I-70. If you’re looking for excellent mogul skiing, check out the Mary Jane Territory at Winter Park – it was ranked the No. 1 mogul skiing destination in North America.

Steamboat Resort

The trip from TAVA Waters to Steamboat Springs is a bit longer, at about three hours, but your effort will be worth it. Situated in an authentic Western town, Steamboat Springs is one of the best destinations for family-friendly skiing in Colorado. It also lays claim to Howelsen Hill Ski Area, which has been in operation since 1915.
