Get Outside with This 20-Minute Spring-Inspired Workout

Winter has come to a close, and it totally delivered with countless days spent on white-capped mountains, plenty of delicious dark beers, and long, cozy nights spent inside. Spring is here, and warm weather will soon follow. We can’t wait to trade in our snow boots for tennis shoes. If you’re excited for longer days and springtime sun, celebrate with this refreshing 20-minute outdoor workout!

The Workout Layout

Cardio: First things first, find a set of stairs or a hill. This is going to be your new best friend for cardio. We’re going to start and finish each set of exercises with two minutes of jogging up and down them. The rest of the workout can be done at the base – on grass, a trail, a sidewalk, etc.

Exercises: In between your hill or stair jog, you will do three different exercises. Spend one minute on each exercise and repeat the set a second time through. This means that you will spend six total minutes per set. Not sure how to do a specific exercise? No problem. We’ve linked a tutorial for each movement.

Your 20-Minute Spring-Inspired Workout

Fire up a stopwatch, either on your phone or on your watch. We only have 20 minutes of total workout time, so let’s get going!

Set 1: 10 Minutes Total

  • Start – 2 minutes of jogging stairs or a hill
  • 1 minute of bodyweight squats
  • 1 minute of burpees
  • 1 minute of mountain climbers
  • Repeat exercises a second time through
  • End – 2 minutes of jogging stairs or a hill

Rest for 1 minute!

Set 2: 10 Minutes Total

  • Start – 2 minutes of jogging stairs or a hill
  • 1 minute of walking lunges
  • 1 minute of bench step-ups
  • 1 minute of leg lifts
  • Repeat exercises a second time through
  • End – 2 minutes of jogging stairs or a hill

*Hint – If there isn’t a park bench nearby for your step-up, get creative! Use a rock, steps on a play structure, or a street curb.
