Do you sometimes have trouble calming your mind after a hard day at work? Or maybe you’re the kind of person who overthinks things, and you just need some quiet time to clear the noise. Whatever’s going on inside your noggin, these four hobbies will help you chill out, recharge, and get ready for more.
Garden Away the Gray
Unsurprisingly, sticking your hands in the dirt can have a grounding effect, helping you focus on the here and now. Not only that, but it’s a great opportunity to take some fresh, calming breaths while you soak up the enlightening effects of vitamin D. You really can’t go wrong with a hobby like gardening. Focus on your breathing, clear your mind, and plant some vegetables or pretty flowers. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Twist & Shake Off the Doldrums
When you think of meditation mixed with dance, maybe it brings to mind the twirling revelers of the ’60s, spinning in their brightly colored tie-dyes to bands like the Grateful Dead. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Any kind of dancing can be a form of meditation. The important thing is that you focus on the music and the movement of your body.
Clean Out Your Cranium
Cleaning might not sound like a ton of fun, but it can be a great way to practice mindfulness and meditation. Start by focusing in on the task at hand. Release yourself from any feelings of self doubt associated with that spilled juice you’ve left in the fridge for far too long. Detach yourself from the cause of your sloppiness and simply think about how to clean it up. As you move along, make clearing and organizing clutter part of the overall objective. Clutter and disorganization can themselves be a cause for stress, so when your cleaning is all done, you may find the benefits of cleaning meditation extending further than you expected.
Color of Sunny
Adult coloring books can be the perfect hobby for giving your brain a break. Whether you stay inside the lines or break all the rules and color those kitties and doggies pink, focusing your attention on doing that one task well will help you clear your mind. The best part? At the end, you might even have something worthy of hanging on the fridge. Or at least you’ll have plenty of festively colored tinder for your next camping trip.
